Lepidorhombus whiffiagonis

LCLeast concern

Overview

The Megrim lives on soft bottoms (sand and mud). It is a predator that eats other fishes and squid. Turbots have their eyes on the left side of the body. They differ from the otherwise quite similar Left-eye flounders in having two ventral fins of equal size (the lower one is much reduced in the Left-eye flounders) and having a lateral line on the lower side of the body (absent on the left eye flounders).

Distribution

Mediterranean Sea, Norway and Iceland to Morocco.

Habitat

Depth range: down to 700 m, on soft sand and mud bottoms.
