Dolphin Fish

The species, sporting magnificent colours is sought after by under water photographers, fishermen and gourmets. This resident of the open sea occasionally approaches the coast, follows ships and form small groups below the flotsam. They feed on fish, crustaceans and squid. The eggs and larvae of the dolphin fishes are pelagic and are carried over large distances.

Mediterranean Sea. Northwestern Spain to South Africa and all oceanic islands.

Depth range: 2–100 m.
