Regal Thorny Oyster

The Regal Thorny Oyster is not actually an oyster- it’s a scallop. While Oysters have simple hinges and nervous systems, the scallop has a more complex ball-and-socket hinge and nervous system. The thorns present on the Regal Thorny Oyster allow other organisms to grown on their shell, which camouflages the organism. These scallops reach about 15cm (6in) in length and live in coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific, eating algae and other organic debris.
