Overview
The Heart Cockle is an edible bivalve which grows only to about 8cm (3in). Found in sandy, sheltered beaches throughout the Indo-Pacific region, the Heart Cockle relies on a mutually beneficial (symbiotic) relationship with zooxanthellae, single-celled organisms that live within its tissues.
