Swift’s Scallop

There are hundreds of kinds of scallops, and one of the most colorful is the Swift’s Scallop. This species reaches about 13cm (5in) in length and is found in the Sea of Japan. Swift’s Scallop can live up to 13 years and are filter feeders, meaning they filter microscopic algae and other organic debris to obtain nutrition. Scallops can be identified from other bivalves by the small fan-shaped structures at their hinge.
