Eurasian Eagle Owl

The Eurasian eagle-owl is largely nocturnal in activity, as are most owl species, with its activity focused in the first few hours after sunset and the last few hours before sunrise. However, in the northern stretches of its range, partial diurnal behavior has been recorded, including active hunting in broad daylight during the late afternoon. In such areas, full nightfall is essentially non-existent at the peak of summer, so eagle-owls must presumably hunt and actively brood at the nest during daylight.

They have been found in habitats as diverse as northern coniferous forests to the edge of vast deserts.

The Eurasian eagle-owl may well be the most powerful extant species of owl, able to attack and kill large prey far beyond the capacities of most other living owls.

Usually clutch size is 1 to 2, rarely 3 to 4 and exceptionally to 6.
