Spotted Triggerfish

Canthidermis maculata

LCLeast concern

Overview

The spotted (rough) triggerfish is an oceanic triggerfish found worldwide in tropical and subtropical seas, and occasionally in the Mediterranean. Unlike most triggerfishes it lives in open water, often in loose groups around floating objects; its body is dark blue-grey with small pale spots and a rough, sandpaper-like skin. It feeds mainly on planktonic crustaceans and small fishes.
