Overview

The largest of the Eastern Atlantic scorpion fishes. One of the best fishes to eat: an essential ingredient of the famous French soup Bouillabaisse. As shown in the photo above the rockfish leaves the shelter of the reef at night to hunt on open sandy bottom.

Distribution

Mediterranean Sea. Rom the English Channel to Senegal, Azores, Madeira, to Cape Varde Islands.

Habitat

Depth range: 10–300 m.
